Question: Why do stocks of small companies sometimes appear to trade at a price higher than stocks of large companies?
Answer: Absolute price doesn't tell the whole story. To find the value of a company (as determined by the market) you must multiply the number of shares outstanding by the stock price. This will give you the market capitalization or total value.
This is also why a stock split is more emotional than financial. The day the stock splits, it will go down in value by about half, and at the same time, you will have twice the shares. It's a good feeling, but little more than that.
